The lawyer representing(作为…的代表=speaking on behalf of) Apple opened the case by showing slides of Samsung phones from 2006 and comparing them to 2010 models, which were produced after the release(发布,发表 e.g.news release conference新闻发布会) of the iPhone. He highlighted their similarities(相似n.) and said, "it's easier to copy than to innovate(创新创立)."

Apple is demanding $2.5bn in damages(损害赔偿 e.g. claim for damages 要求赔偿损失). Samsung denies the charges - the company's lawyers were also preparing opening statements for the jury(陪审团) of seven men and two women, who will have to come to terms with(终于面对 e.g. He would come to terms with his weaknesses) the complexities(复杂n) of patent law(专利法).

The case is being heard by a federal court(联邦法院) in San Jose and is expected to last four weeks. The world's two biggest technology companies have been challenging each other on legal patent issues in a variety of (许多) different countries as they compete in the fast-growing(快速增长的) mobile market. The outcome(结果结局) of the case could have a big impact on (对…有巨大影响,多指负面)the sale of Samsung devices in the US if Apple wins and could affect the price of Apple products if the court rules in Samsung's favour(in sb’sfavour=in favour of sb支持某人).
