(Johann Sebastian Bach)

Hello, when it comes to bringing up children, people often wonder about the business of nature versus nurture(先天和后天). Can talent be learnt or is it simply something that runs in the genes. That certainly seems to be the only explanation for theextraordinary(非同寻常的) talent that was passed down the generations(传给后代) of one of the greatest dynasties(朝代) in musical history, namely the Bach family.

Of course, we all know about the great J.S. Bach. We've been hearing part of his Magnificat(颂歌) and music written by his sons is also heard a lot these days. But today we're going to trace(追溯) the family quite a bit further back to uncover(揭露) some of Bach's musical ancestors(祖先), most of whom is incidentally(偶然的) rather confusingly all-called Johann. And we begin at the first half of the 1600s in the central German region of Thuringia. J.S. Bach, is known to have mentioned his great-great grandfather, a baker(烘焙师) named Veit Bach who lived in Wechmar and who apparently(似乎)used to(过去常常)accompany(陪伴/伴奏) the motion(运动) of his mill(磨坊)wheel by playing upon his cittern(西特琴). He died in or around 1577, but not before he'd produced a Johann himself who in turns born three musical sons and it's here that we beginourgenealogical(家族的) journey with music by two of them, Johann and Heinrich.
